PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
CALIFORNIA AFTERSCHOOL NETWORK                                                                                                    Sacramento, California
Director, Policy & Outreach (December 2018 – Present)
In this role, l lead all aspect’s of CAN’s policy and advocacy related activities including: 
  • Coalition building with traditional and non-traditional partners;
  • Legislation tracking;
  • Conducting policy research, analysis, and dissemination;
  • Working with elected officials and decision-makers around policy and legislation development; 
  • Responding to policy developments on behalf of CAN;
  • Representing CAN at legislative meetings and hearings;
  • Representing CAN and the field at stakeholder meetings; and
  • Developing and facilitating advocacy materials and trainings. 
Additionally, I oversee the outreach and communication efforts of CAN including:
  • Development and implementation of communications strategies including social media, newsletters, and web development, design, and management;
  • Support development of all CAN publications; 
  • Organize, lead, and facilitate meetings of stakeholders and practitioners including funders, California
  • Department of Education Leadership, County Office of Education and School District Leadership, higher education leadership, non-profit and CBO Leadership, expanded learning program staff, and others;
  • Develop and retain key stakeholder relationships including with the CAN Leadership Team and internal committees/workgroups, and field-based committee work and communications;
  • Ensures strategic collaboration with appropriate internal and external personnel to accomplish organizational goals and objectives; and
  • Organize and implement conferences and events.
Lastly, I serve as part of the senior leadership for CAN supporting the strategic direction of the organization and helping to oversee organizational operations.

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION                                                                                              Sacramento, California
Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships Lead, Expanded Learning Division (August 2012 – November 2018)
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a strategic plan that will reshape the Division to focus on providing high quality expanded learning opportunities for California’s youth.
  • Recruit, oversee, and maintain strong relationships with volunteers and stakeholders engaged with planning and implementation process.
  • Support internal Division improvements to ensure implementation of the strategic plan.
  • Design and facilitate in-person and remote meetings/forums to support strategic plan implementation.
  • Monitor and analyze California public policy that may impact the Division.
  • Create and execute communication strategies, including creating and utilizing a website, social media accounts, and other technology platforms to promote the Division and engage stakeholders with strategic planning efforts.
  • Collaborate with team to raise and manage nearly $2,000,000 in grant funds to support strategic planning.

CALIFORNIA STATE TREASURER’S OFFICE                                                                                                   Sacramento, California
Treasury Officer, CAEATFA (March 2010-August 2012)
  • Implemented and managed new programs, particularly a $100 million annual sales and use tax exclusion: engaged stakeholders, coordinated program outreach, and developed program regulations and processes. 
  • Collaborated with industry partners to establish innovative environmental financing programs.
  • Conducted budget reconciliations, generated long-term revenue projections, and forecasted future cash flows. 
  • Analyzed and monitored program applications; developed/utilized databases for data collection and reporting.
  • Worked with the web administrator to maintain and update CAEATFA’s website.
  • Served as lead analyst and assisted in training other analysts and staff members.

Analyst, Public Finance Division (August 2009 – February 2010)
  • Reviewed and evaluated bond documents, cost of issuance, and underwriting fees for bond issuances.
  • Tracked bond sale information for reporting purposes and gathered market and bond pricing information.
  • Completed post bond sale activities including remittance advice and claim schedule submissions.

CALIFORNIA CAPITOL FELLOWS PROGRAM                                                                                                Sacramento, California
Executive Fellow: State Treasurer’s Office (October 2008 – August 2009)
  • Assisted legislative unit with bill tracking, bill analysis, letter writing, and attending hearings.
  • Coordinated marketing efforts with Public Affairs for new financing mechanisms for small businesses.
  • Analyzed fee revenue data for bond issuing authorities in California and recommended new fee structures.

ASSOCIATED STUDENTS, CSUF, INC                                                                                                              Fullerton, California
President & CEO (July 2006 – June 2008)
  • Managed 9 staff members and a $13 million annual operating budget, created yearly strategic plans, and established a long term strategic planning process.
  • Advocated on behalf of the over 37,000 students of CSUF to key constituents.

Established in 2009, Inspire Giving is an endowment fund administered by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation. Individuals contribute to Inspire Giving to be able to collectively give a donation larger than they could give on their own. Every year Inspire Giving provides a $10,000 grant to help fund a specific project for a local nonprofit. Through our leadership team, donors, and partnerships, Inspire Giving also provides in-kind services, donations, and support depending on the project needs. In ten years, Inspire Giving has supported ten nonprofits through $105,000 in grants and over $1,000,000 in in-kind support and services. Truly, a little is enough, if enough people do it.

BOOST Leadership Team (July 2014 - Present)
The BOOST Leadership Team provides big ideas, new connections, practical strategies and adds credibility to the planning process for the annual Best-Of-Out-Of-School-Time (BOOST) Conference.

Launched in 2009 as the young professional program of the Sacramento Metro Chamber, Metro EDGE represents more than 500 of the best and brightest of the Capital Region’s young leaders. The Regional Action Committee identifies, educates, and engages Metro EDGE members on the economic, political, and civic issues facing the region's young professionals.
